Hi I'm... Lemesos
You need to peel back the suntanned layers of this onion to really appreciate it...
Lemesos is powdery beaches and flashy hotels, but it’s got a crumbly secret 🙊
Historic castles, twisty cobbled lanes, and traditional stone houses hide behind the swanky promenade
Lemesos (aka Limassol) is a reformed party girl - she's ditched the sleazy yacht crowd and got her culture on 💅
The castle is the real MVP. This sun-bleached building was rebuilt by the Ottomans back in 1590. The Medieval stone is so smooth it’s stroke-able. Cop a feel while wandering about the old prison cells 👮
Want some contemporary culture with your dusty ancient bits? This part of town is near the Old Harbour - think washed out sepia buildings and independent art galleries 🖼
Gallery Morfi is a short stroll from Limassol Castle. It’s one of the best galleries in Cyprus 🏆 Try and catch an outdoor exhibitions here - it’s an art party in the garden courtyard.
Old monasteries, waterfalls, and Mount Olympos (not that one) - all more fun with vino 🍷
The Troodos Mountains are a 50 minute drive from Lemesos but well worth hiring a car for.
There’s a smattering of dreamy hill villages and a vineyard route to follow. Pushed for time? Stick to Vlassides Winery in the sleepy village of Koilani - the guy who runs it is called Sophocles 📚
Head to Opa Opa Club for a rave and sambuca shots with a hen party. Not your scene? There’s more than one way to sink Ouzo in Lemesos. HookahPlace is a laid-back shisha bar with squishy sofas and Jimi Hendrix artwork 🌿
End the night with a real Cypriot kebab from Aristos and Kiki Kebab House 😋
Squeezed all the juice out of Lemesos? 🍋
Hit the motorway and head to Paphos and Larnaca.
