Start your Portugese beach-crawl with Praia de Benagil. Its chalky cliffs look like Dorset - if Dorset had golden sands, sun or tanned men in speedos.

The beach used to be a hot spot for fisherman, and you can still find a few of them bobbing about.

Cadge a lift with one (or swim if you’re feeling particularly athletic) to see the show-off cave Algar de Benagil.

It’s got its own natural skylight, letting the sun pour into the cave and giving amateur photographers a boner.

If you’re an absolute mentalist, you can climb the hill next to Praia de Benagil and jump into the ocean. Locals do it without a second thought, so you're sure to survive the drop...

Don’t spaff your sandy load too quickly - this is just the start. A half hour’s walk (or 10 mins in the car if your flip flops can’t handle the hike) is the equally dreamy Praia de Marinha.

As you clamber along the cliff tops, pause and look out over the famous cliff stacks. Ahh, there she is. The most beautiful McDonalds advert in the world.

Alright alright, bit harsh to the Algarve’s sexiest beach, but those golden arches do look sliiiightly familiar.

Ignore the sudden craving for a gherkin and hop down the stairs to the beach. Pack your snorkel - the water here is clear and full o’ fish.
