5 Coronation Weekend Escapes

5 Coronation Weekend Escapes

Does the thought of spending your Saturday in a sweaty queue outside Buckingham Palace or at a street party with the neighbours you've been avoiding since the Covid WhatsApp group chat make your skin crawl?

Fear not fellow countrymen and women. We've got you covered.

Here are 5 chilled weekend breaks to escape the crowds this Coronation weekend and celebrate yourselves. You deserve it.

Bakewell, Derbyshire

Nothing says a British bank holiday like a picnic in the Peak District, our duck.

We take Bakewell over Buckingham Palace any day. Come and ogle at another very important family’s house (Chatsworth) before treating yourself to an original Bakewell Pudding. Yep, the OG was not a tart.

If you fancy working off the puds, the Monsail trail has 8.5 miles of railway tracks, viaducts and rolling hills for you to stroll or cycle past.

Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire

This is the ultimate bank holiday canal walk. Pay respects to the other most famous British male (sorry Charles) on a 5 mile ramble to Stratford Upon Avon.

Start at Wilmcote, a teeny village once home to the Bard´s mum. You'll be passing friendly narrow boat owners (don´t forget to wave and actually say hello - these are friendly folk), fancy waterside houses and swans until you reach the centre of Stratford.

End with a well deserved pint at the Dirty Duck, where Judi Dench and the like used to booze after a night at the RSC darling.

Torbay, Devon

This one´s all about R&R.

Cook up a meal with the fresh crab and lemon sole you picked up from fishmonger whilst listening to the hum of the ocean.

No sirens. No cheering. No flags. No crowds. Just you and the coast of Torbay.

Make sandcastles fit for non-royals and drink chilled rose at Lulu's waterside cafe - this is YOUR bank holiday.

Brighton, East Sussex

We know what you're thinking. Brighton will be as packed as London and fighting over a strip of pebble beach wasn´t what you had in mind either. But wait...

Just a bus ride away down the coast, you can be kicking back with a G&T in a can overlooking the turqoise sea on one of the famous Seven Sisters.

Walks range from 2 - 6 hours depending on how much you wanna escape the crowds.

Wells-next-the-sea, Norfolk

Shepherd´s hut.

Two words we still like to hear from our lockdown days.

This one is off-grid and walking distance from the chippie at Wells Beach. Or there's a campfire if you fancy it - first BBQ of the year? It's what King Charlie would want.
