Playa del Carmen, eh?

Sitting pretty on the Yucatán Penninsula’s Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen used to be a sleepy fishing village… but we're guessing the trout moved out when the margarita crowd moved in.

Less touristy than neighbouring Cancun, Playa's packing coral reefs, Caribbean shoreline, and laidback taquerias. Backpack through the jungle or scuba dive down to Ariel’s gaff.

Where will I sleep?

Stuffed full of restaurants, bars, and pools, and wrapped up in tropical greenery… this hotel is a pillowy burrito of goodness - the spicy salsa on top? It’s all inclusive.

You might be parked firmly in Mexico, but your taste buds are going globe-hopping. Steak nights, Italian carb sessions, and Asian eats are all up for grabs here. Sleep off the food coma in your double room, it comes with either a balcony or terrace.

The beach is a five-minute walk away (less if you take one of the hotel’s golf buggies) but there are also 4 pools at the hotel.

What will I do?

It’s a 10-minute walk from the hotel to Dressel Divers. These guys will take you on guided scuba tours of the Yucatan jungle caverns orrrrr you can choose to swim with the fishies… and by fishies, we mean sharks.

Walk for 10-minutes in the opposite direction and you’ll hit a fancy shmancy golf course. It’s called Hard Rock Camp de Golf and we’d pretend we knew what a birdie was just to drink in the sea views and tropical grounds.

Playa del Carmen itself is a five-minute drive away. Start your evening at Harry’s Steakhouse for meaty grills and a martini, then hit up Club de Cerveza for craft beers, and finish with a cheeky taco from blacKraken. When in Rome, right?
