There are 300 days of glorious sunshine here but (through some witchcraft) it’s still got a sparkling snow record. Cross-border paths twirl round postcard-perfect mountains and the legendary Milky Way ski area has 400km of piste to explore.

In the town, hunker down in homely pizza joints or subterranean bars for chill AF Apres vibes.

Where will I sleep?

You’re right at the foot of the slopes, a pitch and putt from the Golf Club (600 yards), and a belly flop from the hotel’s swanky spa.

Le Hameau des Airelles Apartment - try saying that to the Uber driver - is slung in the shadow on a snow-capped mountain. This means the heated outdoor pool has postcard-perfect views. There’s also a hot tub, hammam, sauna, and treatment rooms - all free on first use.

What will I do?

Do your best Bambi impression as you baby-deer-it down the slopes. Your resort is chilled, so ideal for beginners who want to practice in peace, but also experts who want to freeride.

When you’re tired of living your best Eddie the Eagle life, Monty’s packing more than just slopes. You’re a five-minute walk from Luge Monty Express - a toboggan-run amusement park. If tumbles on the slopes took it out of you, head to Spa Nuxe Durancia for swanky treatments. It’s just a 15-minute walk.

Your apartment is right in the centre between a pastry shop (Les Chalet Des Gourmandises) and the Tourist Info Office. Ideal. It’s also perfectly positioned for picking up Espace Trail 3000, a network of 12 hiking routes through crumbly mountain passes. It’s a half an hour stroll to The Tibetan Bridge. This guy is a butt-clenching stretch of thin rope bridge strung between two jagged cliffs… G’luck.

For eats, we like Les Terrasses for a side of snow-capped mountain with your charcuterie board. Try Kilt for laid-back Italian food in a homely setting, and finish the night at La Tourmente for cocktails.
