ABANDONED KALEIDOSCOPE CASTLE
Florence, Italy
If you don’t have a bedroom for every day of the year, who even are you?
That was Ximenes’ (great Scrabble name) thinking when he built the 'Castello di Sammazzano' in Tuscany in the 17th century. His great-great etc. grandson, the Marquis Ferdinando Panciatichi Ximenes (sure), spruced the place up in the 19th century with the Moroccan-kaleidoscope-style facelift it still has.

Sadly, a bunch of pesky Germans looted the grounds of the castle during WW2, but it was still in good enough shape to become a luxury hotel after the war.
The castle is currently abandoned - it’s being bounced around from investor to investor without anyone giving it the TLC it needs.

A group of locals who love the castle are fighting for it to be reopened - they arrange public viewings now and then.
Check out their website for specific dates and definitely don’t just try and sneak into the grounds by yourself... 😉
