Stunning people, forest beaches, rooftop bars, a buzzing design scene and an Olympic bobsleigh track. Yeah, Oslo has it alright…

Don your designer sunglasses (convincing fakes also acceptable) and head for Grünerløkka where organic cafes morph into jazz clubs at night. The islands circling the city are the ideal place to swim or hike - Norwegians are mad for that outdoor life.

Scandic Fornebu is a hulking, slate grey, minimalist temple overlooking an Oslo fjord. It also has an insane Norwegian breakfast spread (incl with this trip).

Sleek, modern bedrooms come with black out curtains, luxe bedding and FACE Stockholm toiletries. There’s a fancy pants gym and bike hire - ideal for a scenic cycle that hugs the coast all the way to Oslo (15 minutes).

What will I do?

Bygdoy is a 20 minutes cycle (or easy bus journey) from the hotel. Here you can tick off beaches, the Viking Museum and a polar ship called Fram. Delightful.

For lunch, it’s an 11-minute walk to Seeds Cafe. It's the kind of place that has dangling raw light bulbs and fluffy foliage, plus rainbow buddha bowls you can feel smug whilst eating. Reko Deli is another good shout for wholesome toast dishes topped with mushrooms and blue cheese.

For alternative Oslo, wander Grünerløkka’s backstreets and hit up Bla - a graffitied cafe on the banks of the Akerselva that has live jazz, funk and hip hop sessions when the sun goes down. Catch resident DJs on the terrace and rummage through the Sunday flea market.
