Eating 2018

Eating 2018

2013 marked the birth of the ‘Cronut’.

We’ve seen the rise of ‘chicken waffles’, ‘Nitrogen Ice cream’ become a thing, and the humble coconut take over the world.

In 2017 Facebook feeds across the nation were covered in Raclet cheese (thank you Ladbible).

But what new food trends are in store for 2018? Here’s LuckyTrip’s 5 food predictions … (ignore them at your peril).

Vegan Goals

Berlin, Germany

Everyone and their dogs are vegan these days (and good on ‘em too). If you’ve made the move to veganism - or if you’re just trying to be a better eater 😇 - Berlin is the place for you.

There’s over 450 vegan restaurants, and even a street for all things plant-based, known as - what else - Vegan Avenue (Schivelbeiner Strasse). Head to Kopps vegan brunches on Sundays. YASS 🙌

Not Vegan Goals

Tbilisi, Georgia

Khachapuri is predicted to be HUGE in 2018. But what the feck is it?

Georgia’s national dish - bread with melted cheese (and an egg if you’re feeling cheeky) baked into the middle. Tear off chunks of bread and dip them into the cheesey goodness... Oh mama.

Noma 2.0

Copenhagen, Denmark

Suuuure, Noma’s won ‘world’s best restaurant’ three times, but have they tried yer mam’s casserole?

Seriously though, Noma is the shizz. Winner of all awards, beloved by everyone with taste buds. They made the rogue decision to close early last year, but head chef René Redzepi is relaunching with Noma 2.0 in Copenhagen in February. It’s pretty unlikely you’ll get a table, but you can always look at the photos and drool - er, dream.

Massimo's New Pad

Florence, Italy

You miiiiight have more luck scoring a spot at Massimo Bottura’s new restaurant (spoiler: probs not). A chef so famous he was first up on Chef’s Table and scored a cameo in Master of None. His Modena restaurant Osteria Francescana is a three-Michelin-star Willy Wonka’s Factory of eccentricity - his most famous dish is called ‘Oops, I dropped the lemon tart’.

The new restaurant opens in the Gucci Garden in the Palazzo della Mercanzia in Florence. It’s all very hush-hush, so keep checking back for deets.

The Avocado Show

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Avocado on toast. Avocado fries. Avocado in your hair. Avocado slathered on your thighs. The world’s gone mad for avocado.

The inevitable has happened, with a cafe opening in Amsterdam that ONLY serves the green smushy stuff. There’s avo on toast (obvs), burgers with avocado infused buns and even an avocado and chocolate smoothie. Ermmm.
