EATING BUDAPEST

Budapest, Hungary

Hungarian food is a comforting carb hug… 🤗

In Budapest portions are generous and prices are super cheap 💸 Head for the hole-in-the-wall joints or places run by crumpled old nanas - they know what's up.

Dishes look humble at first but everything packs a flavour punch that’ll make your face tingle 🌶

Elasticated waistbands are your friend 👖

There are many pictures of Buja Disznok’s schnitzels on the internet. A crispy golden brown cutlet and a dish of potato salad… So simple. So bold. It’s basically art.

Schnitzel’s come in one baby-arm size and the potato salad is creamy and topped with spring onion.

Buja Disznok: £5

Gulyas Tunkolo Bufe is the sort of simple, homey place that charms the money out your pockets. It won’t cost much though - these guys are big feeders and the prices are ridiculously low.

They do some of the best goulash around - a Hungarian meat and veg stew with a ton of smokey paprika.

Average Spend 💸
Gulyas Tunkolo Bufe: £2.50

It’s not that kinda place. Take a tin of beer from the fridge.

Shards of things, micro herbs, and deconstructed everything - yep, Borkonyha Winekitchen is spenny and wants you to know it.

This place specialises in Hungarian wines - they have over 200 - which they can pair with your meal. The menu changes loads and all the ingredients are from local producers.

Oh, and the breadbasket isn’t your general Warburtons shiz. Think raisins, cashew nuts, cumin, and squid ink bread.
