Vada Pav at Ashok’s
When a soft white roll hugs a fat circle of fried potato, something beautiful happens…
The Vada Pav is the meal of the masses. Think, veggie burger in its purest most artery-thickening form 😋 Go rogue and add a smear of green chutney if you want, but really why mess with perfection?
You can get them all over the city but we’re sticking with the OG. Ashok’s been in the biz for 35 years and consistently churns out a perfect pav. Find them near Kirti College, just off Kashinath Dhuru Marg.
And it’s just 30p. So you can have ten.

Feeling hungry? For £1.50 it’s well worth getting the chicken leg biryani for the table as well.

“Y’know what goes great with Indian food? Gravvy.”
Over at Gurukripa they’ll do you a slapdash tray of samosa with a tamarind gravy and marble-size chickpeas. Red onion and a generous sprinkle of coriander finish the dish.
It’s only 50p. Yep, feels like you’re actually stealing.

Kulfi at Kapoor’s

Yeah, Mumbai street food will do that to a person 😤 Nothing’s going to calm the fire in your mouth like deep throating a Kulfi. These sticks of frozen caramelised milk are pimped with cardamom, saffron, pistachio, and mango.

Chocolate Sandwich at Ruia College
The chocolate sandwiches in Mumbai are no joke…
Here’s how it goes:
Dark chocolate is sliced into shards and put on top of a stack of white buttered bread.
A dollop of Hershey’s syrup goes on top.
These get toasted in a sandwich press and then sliced into four and get another chocolate shaving shower. Some weirdos add cheese to this too - avoid them.
