Europe's Weird Museums

Europe's Weird Museums

Let's be real. There are only two reasons you’re going to a museum on your holiday

a) It’s raining
b) You were culture-shamed into it

Museums with break-up toaster exhibits, stuffed frogs doing dentistry, and devils pulling sheep (literally)…

Welcome to Europe’s Weird Museums - AKA museum’s you’ll actually want to visit.

Froggyland

Split, Croatia

It’s frogs doing… people things 🐸

One Tripadvisor user described this place as “outrageous.”

Froggyland is basically 507 stuffed frogs in 21 cases- but really it’s much MUCH more than that. These guys were the life work of Ference Mere. He spent 10 years stuffing and arranging them - everyone has their kinks 👮

When he died they were passed from owner to owner until some bright spark made a museum out of them.

Mere may sound like a maniac with too much time, but his taxidermy is actually hella advanced.

Come and see Frog as Painter…. Frog as Dentist…. Frog in Missionary Position (not really). This is an examination of humanity and taxidermy, people. GET. ON. BOARD…

KattenKabinet

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Nope. It’s not cats in cabinets... it’s even better.

The KattenKabinet art museum will make even the most broken of individuals crack a smile 😺

One of their exhibitions was described like this:

“In each photograph we see an unexpected, but familiar creature: a cat. It is like an artist, inquisitive and independent. Unlike humans, the cat does not hide his emotions.”

Sneaky humans.

This museum also includes classy drawings and sculptures by Picasso, Rembrandt, and Corneille 🐈

Žmuidzinavičius Museum

Kaunas, Lithuania

There’s a museum in Kaunas where Hitler and Stalin skip around human bones… bleak ☠

What started off as one guys obsession with the dark side is now a museum with over 3,000 pieces of art depicting the devil 👿 Think Satan emerging from a fluffy devil hoof, a devil playing the accordion, and two horned fellas hugging it out 🤘

These sculptures and carvings come from all over the world and are actually pretty high-brow… in a devil-worhsipy kinda way.

Museum of Broken Relationships

Zagreb, Croatia

“Overcome an emotional collapse through creativity”....

The Museum of Broken Relationships wants you to put the family-sized tub of ice-cream down and get arty 🍨

Ironically this museum is housed in a romantic-looking baroque palace. Try and get past that 💔

Inside there are exhibits like, The Toaster of Vindication. It’s described like this: “When I moved out, and across the country, I took the toaster. That'll show you. How are you going to toast anything now?”

So. True.

After you’ve checked out the wine bottles, dreadlocks, and massive dildo (really) head for the Brokenships Bistro. You can eat your feelings and drown them in beer 👏
