Galway's Oyster Festival

GALWAY'S OYSTER FESTIVAL

Galway City, Ireland

You know what they say about a man that loves oysters… 👅

Welcome to “Ireland’s longest running and greatest gourmet extravaganza”.

For the last 62 years Galway’s celebrated the yonic shellfish with a massive street festival.
Always held in September (cos you can’t eat oysters unless there’s an ‘R’ in the month), locals prepare for the season with parades, talks, competitions and of course the great oyster feast.
Wash down plates of the salty lads with champagne or creamy Irish stout.
The ‘Oyster Olympics’ (you can’t make this stuff up) is held on the Saturday, where dozens of people compete in a shucking competition - basically who can open oysters the fastest.
Then it’s on to the street for music, Irish dancing and the annual crowning of ‘Miss Oyster Pearl’...
