La Palma, Canaries, Spain

"Look up at the stars, not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist."

If it works for yer boy Stephen Hawking...

But what if you can’t see the stars? How will you become the next generation defining physicist then?

Head to La Palma- and don’t stop til you reach the observatory.
Caldera de Taburiente National Park has one of the clearest skies on the planet.

By some quirk of science, (i.e where the island’s positioned in the Atlantic Ocean) clouds form at a height which blocks out light pollution from all around. A bit like a giant pair of cloud hands shielding it from city lights.

This makes prime star-gazing real estate 🌌
The best way to get as many stars, asteroids, and comets in your eyes as possible is on a guided tour.

They'll take you round the viewing spots of the National Park (there's 16), and show you how to use the telescopes (score).

Its €25 for 4 hours which is a bargain- they’ll even show you black holes. 🌚
If you’re big into outer space already, Roque de los Muchachos astrophysics observatory is the one. It’s got Europe’s meatiest telescopes - so strong they can show you Orion's belt, trousers and crotch too 🍆

These ones are the spit of R2D2, head over in the day time to check em out.
La Palma's an all round winner if you're into hiking volcanic rocks in the National Park, and hanging out on black beaches in the Spanish sunshine. Plus it stays warm through the winter (average 21°C). 🌞
