It's Time For... Larnaca

It's Time For... Larnaca

Larnaca, Cyprus

Some people just use Larnaca for its airport and then skedaddle down the coast to Ayia Napa 🙄

Sure, if you want a beach and a Maccy D's then off you go, but if ancient Islamic tombs, giant shipwrecks and flamingos tickle your winkle, stay put.

Larnaca is the holy trinity of beach life, culture and nightlife. Amen.

Something to Do

Like that bit from the start of Titanic…

The Zenobia shipwreck is the best dive site in Cyprus and one of the top ten in the world.

See preserved cargo, colourful seaweed and more exotic fish than a high-class sushi restaurant.
Hala Sultan Tekke is killing it - as well as being one of the holiest Islamic sites in the world, it’s got a salty lake full of flamingos 😍

The peaceful mosque is surrounded by palm trees, like a desert-mirage. The flamingos are just starting to show their pink faces as autumn hits.

Something to Eat

The owner of Falafel Abu Dany is your new bezzie while in Larnaca. He takes the time to get to know all of his customers, so he can serve up your grilled aubergine exactly the way you like it.

Don’t let the queues put you off - this personalised meal is worth the wait.
If you like dinner with a side of bohemian artsy madness, Art Cafe 1900 is the place.

Head through the instagrammable blue door to a restaurant and bar covered in posters and 80s memorabilia.

There’s a tasty restaurant upstairs and a basement bar serving world beers and over a hundred kinds of whiskey 👌

Once the sun sets, dancing on tables is encouraged.

And a beach...

You’ve been listening to ‘Waves Volume 1’ and burning Yankee’s ‘Sea Breeze’ candles all year.

And now, it’s time.

Flop down on one of Cyprus’s best beaches. Go to Yanathes Beach for minty waters and plant life, or the famous Mckenzie Beach for watersports and people watching.

The strip goes rogue at night, when DJs like Hernan Cattaneo and Blond:Ish play and you dance barefoot in the sand til morning.

Sum Up:

Larnaca basically has it all - beaches, culture, nightlife and flamingos. Plus it stays warm through October and is a tidy 17°C in November. Yep, that’ll do.
