Leipzig by night

LEIPZIG BY NIGHT

Leipzig, Germany

Remember last week? When we kicked off our post-lockdown bucket list with a night in Belgrade? Well, we're committed to making this a thing... so we're BACK with another night out and another city.

If Berlin is the lion of the concrete jungle, Leipzig is like an activist-toucan in fetish-wear, with a series of thriving nests… which used to be factories. (And now they’re nightclubs. Geddit?)

Leipzig's where the artists come to live, and where techno has its roots in lefty politics.

It’s unglamourous, but 100% real. Plus, 17% cheaper than Berlin. Fact.

Go for a gritty weekend of all the techno you can handle...

Conne Island

Not just a music venue, Conne Island is: A famous meeting point for lefty radicals, a powerhouse for experimental shows, a space for talks on technology, a skate-park, sports centre…

It’s the sort of place where things are allowed to happen, and ideas are able to take off - the cultural heart of Leipzig for 25 years.

Come for a coffee, or some bleeding-edge techno.

Distillery

“We ran Distillery illegally for the first two years”

One of the pillars of the Leipzig techno scene- Distillery has been going at it since 1990, just after the Berlin wall came down.

In a catacomb of a local brewery - it’s still got that gritty-grafiti-warehousey thing going on. Expect international DJs (Carl Craig, Marcel Dettmann) and the cream of Leipzig talent.

Elipmanoke

“It’s like a party in my mouth, and everyone’s invited”

Elipmanoke is having alll the fun. It’s where locals come and get sweaty to “One-Man-House-Funk-bands”, even (and especially) on a Sunday. It’s a ‘sound-workshop for sub-cultures’ doing whatever the hell it wants which is chiefly house, disco and techno (obvs.)

IZF

“Keine fotos bitte”

Abandoned factory setting - check. Underground Leipzig techno line-up - check. Fetish workshops and talks on gender issues… hello.

A relatively new kid on the block, IZF is where to come for REALLY experimental techno and house. Don’t compare it to Berghain, or Klaus on the door won’t let you in. (Just like Berghain)
