Sonar Reykjavik

SONAR REYKJAVIK

Reykjavik, Iceland

Love electronic music but hate sweating your eyelashes off in the heat? Sonar Reykjavik’s got you.

Every March, Sonar pies off Spain for Iceland, hosting a weekend of electronic bangers and Viking-infused weirdness.
The line-up promotes local artists, so it’s the perfect chance to discover the next Jónsi before Boiler Room gets ‘em.
The festival’s held at Reykjavik’s Harpa - a giant futuristic building that is permanently coated in bubble-wrap. The people of Iceland love it so much that when the economic crash hit and it couldn’t be finished, the locals went quids in and paid for it themselves.
One of the best things about Sonar is you’ve got plenty of time in the day (raging hangover permitting) to explore Iceland’s glaciers, fjords and thermal springs.

Plus, there’s every chance you might come out of the most uplifting gig of your little life, look up at the sky and see it burst into life with kaleidoscopic colours. Although to be fair, that could happen at 7am at any festival, northern lights or not…
This year, the line-up includes TOKiMONSTA, Lindstrøm and someone called Lord Pusswhip. Alright.

Sonar Reykjavik is the weekend of the 16th of March. Tickets cost 19,990 ISK (£140) for both days.
