THE WORLD'S SCARIEST BRIDGE
Málaga, Spain
It’s always a good sign when you’re trekking to see a memorial to the people who’ve died, doing the same thing you’re doing 😳
The Caminito Del Rey was the world’s scariest bridge, attracting nut job climber types from far and wide... til five of them died and they had to close it in 2013.

Sketchiness levels had reached an all time high.
Some parts of the bridge were just exposed, rusty beams, some parts crumbling concrete with gaping holes.
Whole slabs would crumble off and fall 100 metres into the canyon.
But the views were to die for… muahahha.

To be fair, it was over 100 years old. They built it in 1905 so that workers at the two hydroelectric power plants across the El chorro gorge could cross between them.
There’s also a giant reservoir here - King Alfonso of Spain came in 1921 to see it being finished, so they named it after him.

Now it’s safe as houses, thanks to a €2.8 million face lift.
The dam’s still there, and so are the killer views (😉) over the ‘gorge of the Gaitanes’ and the jurassic limestone cliffs.
It’s about a 4 hour walk start to finish.

Some things you should know though:
“The Caminito should not be attempted if you are of a nervous disposition or suffer from vertigo.
You will be provided with a helmet upon entry. It must be kept on at all times.”
Sure will do.
The Caminito del Rey is 1 hr 30 train from Malaga (or an hour’s drive).
