Fairytale fjords drip onto black sand beaches and thermal lagoons sit pretty in front of ice-capped mountains... Iceland is the work of an ice queen with an eye for design.

Go on the trail of Vikings at the capital’s big dog museums or head for a soak in the geothermal pools. Reykjavík doesn’t have a bad angle.

Sand Hotel sits on an adorable street next to a historic (and tasty) bakery and opposite a street art mural. Inside, everything is sleek and luxe with lots of grey and blue contemporary furnishings plus local artwork. It’s got a downtown location - close to city hall, the concert hall, and food hall. All the halls.

Midgardur by Centre Hotels is in the same great location, just a 10-minute stroll down the same street. It’s got a stripped back modern vibe and is sandwiched between coffee roasters and art galleries.

What will I do?

Start working on that whale call...

You’re heading off on a rib speedboat with just eleven other passengers. The 2hr tour kicks off at the harbour where you’ll sail by the Concert Hall and Sun Voyager. Then your off to magical Faxaflói Bay to search for puffins, dolphins, and whales.

Next up, you’re in a heated cabin cradling a hot chocolate like it’s a baby and shimmering green lights are dancing across the sky... The Reykjavik Sailors tour company even let you use your ticket the next day if there are no sightings of the northern lights.
