World's Best Rooftop Bars

World's Best Rooftop Bars

A head for heights and a stomach lined with Japanese whiskey…

These are the world’s best rooftop bars because sipping drinks at street level doesn’t fit our Summer 2023 fantasy.

L’Oiseau Blanc, Paris

A French rooftop bar that makes you want to put on a well-tailored suit and chain smoke into the early hours…

L’Oiseau Blanc at The Peninsula is the MOST French. Sophisticated. Elegant. And just the right kind of snobby. It’s cocktails pay homage to vintage aviation. Oh, and it’s overlooking the Eiffel Tower.

Sky Bar, Lisbon

Surrounded by rivers and castles with a backdrop of mountains - Sky Bar Lisbon has dreamy sunsets and DJ sets that play late into the night.

They also have the most terrifying dress code: Casual Chic.

What does it meaaaaaan?!

Frank's, London

Listen, most rooftop bars are wanky. Something about the elevation brings out the arsehole in all of us. But Frank’s ain’t like that.

Sitting on top of a Peckham car park, this non-profit has pop-up art installations, live music and really good brunch. We like the peaches, ricotta and honey on toast washed down with a Cuban coffee (Havana especial, cold brew and condensed milk).

La Terraza, Madrid

“HAHAHA look, look! They look like tiny ant people down there hahaha…”

A rooftop bar can change a person.

Not La Terraza at The Principal, they’ve nailed the whole classy not brassy thing. Don’t expect flashy frills, just a charming urban garden with cypresses and olive trees. The drinks are by Spanish mixologist, Manel Vehí, there’s a water fountain, hammock space, outdoor shower and concerts every Wednesday.

Chinchilla, Cape Town

A mouthful of watermelon mint G&T and an eyeful of palm trees. Tasty.

Chinchilla is Cape Town’s chilled out beach bar in the clouds (kinda. It’s a titchy two-storeys). You’ve got the Table Mountain National Park on one side and Camps Bay Beach on the other.

Westlight, New York

Throw a bagel in New York and you’ll hit a rooftop bar. But Westlight hits different. This 22nd-floor giant looms over Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan.

It serves up craft beers and rare spirits. Try the Four Winds (Irish whiskey, bourbon, black walnut) and get totally obliterated as the sun sets.
