Just ten mins down the hill lies the golden curve of Puerto Rico Beach, and five mins in the other direction you have shops galore. But you might find it hard to leave the hotel, especially with the spa calling – indoor pool, sauna, wellness centre – all complimentary.

What will I do?

Go on an epic dolphin-watching boat tour with Spirit of The Sea, hit up Gran Canaria Water Sports for parasailing, or just sloth about on Playa de Puerto Rico. All within a 14-minute walk. All dreamy.

It’s not your closest beach, but it’s worth taking the bus to Playa de Amadores. It’s a curved, white sand cove with cliffside bars. If you really want to lose the crowds, push on to Playa de Tauro for rugged hiking trails.
