Porto, eh?

Art galleries are popping up like daisies and michelin stars are shooting from the sky, but Portugal’s second city has managed to stay humble.

That’s thanks to the locals who fill the streets with traditional fado music and barbecue sardines on the river banks.

Where will I sleep?

Picture this... You've had the deepest sleep and woken up to the Portuguese sun beaming in through your balcony door. You sip an espresso made at your very own coffee station (MUITO bom) before mooching down to the terrace for your all-included breakfast.

You're then just a stroll away from boujee malls, artisan mercados and vintage shops on Rua Santa Catarina. This is the anti Oxford Street. Think chats with local sellers between pit stops of pastel de natas or a glass of vinho branco (white wine). Or both. 😈

The rest of Porto is on your door step - you can pretty much walk the lot or river boat if you feeling fancy.

What will I do?

Saunter down Santa Catarina and the Praça de Batalha to get to the riverside district of Riberia. This is where the infamous Skittles-coloured houses sparkle in the sun and rugged men prepare heavily salted sardines on their street-side grills.

Where to drink first? The neighboring village of Vila Nova de Gaia is where all the port gets fermented before being shipped all over the world. Have a wine cellar crawl and make sure to include Graham’s Port Lodge and Cockburn’s Port Lodge (the jokes write themselves).

The closest rock pools, Piscinas de Mares, are about a 20-minute drive up the coast.
