Val d’Isère, eh?

Val (to its mates) has dramatic slopes that criss-cross down mountains and slide into the chocolate box village. Spend your days smashing Michelin-starred eats, carb-loading at the world-famous bakery, and drinking hot chocolate thicker than London’s smog… and much more delicious 🍫

Worried about the snow? This place is more reliable than your mates 2006 Honda Civic 🚗 It’s got a spotless snow record thanks to its high altitude and massive artificial snow-making setup.

We like December for quiet slopes, fresh mountain air, and the odd Christmas market. Wait until later in the month for party vibes. January has pretty much guaranteed snow. The Après life is toned down in this month so it's best for outdoorsy types. In February things start heating up, the days get a little longer, and the crowds hit the restaurants for leisurely lunches.

Where will I sleep?

This is the sort of place where you’ll be singing from the balcony and snowy deer and squirrels will appear... 🦌

Chalets de Solaise is all timber-framed goodness with craggy, snow-dipped mountains in the background. The best bit is the location - smack bang in the centre of town, a short snow shuffle (not a technical term) from restaurants and bars. You’re also a snowball throw from slopes and ski lifts.

Before long the ski/Après life will take its toll. And when it does, your chalet is ready with an outdoor heated pool, sauna, wellness centre, and daily delivery of baked goods. We also like the snuggly communal lounge which has a pool table.

What will I do?

You’ll be skiing in the steps of triple gold medallist Jean-Claude Killy - but relax there are plenty of newb slopes for you to do your Eddie the Eagle impression on ⛷ Some of the best bits include the iconic Face de Bellevarde which has incredible Alps views. On the main mountain, you can hit up The Snowpark for some beginner runs. It’s also worth trying the ski tours that begin at La Daille and climb to the summit of Borsat. Or go off-piste and weave through massive snowfields, towering glaciers, and fluffy trees 🌲

You’re staying right in the heart of this winter postcard so start your day right with a four-minute walk to The Chevallot fam bakery. Get the Bear Claw pastry for flaky, almond goodness 🥐 For a coffee pitstop you can’t do better than Arctic Juice Cafe. It’s a three-minute walk away. For evening eats, you’re a four-minute walk from Restaurant 1789 which does pieces of meat cooked over the fire and smothered in rich sauces.

We hear you. Make La Folie Douce your home for the week. This is the best spot on the mountain and the party kicks off from 2:30pm and ends with cabaret and table-dancing 🕺 Dick's Tea Bar is another good shout - and just a five-minute walk from where you’re staying. Come for the after-dinner electronic violin and sax, stay for the club that goes until 5 am.
