The Route
Note: hazards include hairpin bends and rogue sheep...
You’ll pick the route up at the junction of the A474 then make your way through Brynamman, over the Black Mountain, before crossing Llangadog and climbing to Llandovery. It’s a baby road trip. Coming in at 14.8 miles (you could do it in a couple of hours) butttt it climbs to 495m. Still need more convincing? The scenery is so beaut the Top Gear guys filmed here. What you'll do
You’re best bet is to go North to South. Going this way gives you the best views of Tywi Valley and the best chance of surviving Tro Gwcw. Tro Gwcw is a notorious hairpin bend that’ll put hairs on your chest. It means Cuckoo Turn and locals say you have to shout this as you twist along…. We call bullshit.
You’ll mostly be taking in the scenery but there’s a few castles to make pit stops at too. Carreg Cennen Castles is in the Brecon Beacons and sits in front of a massive limestone cliff face. Dinefwr Castle is also on a ridge but is much more crumbly than Carreg. Lastly keep your peepers peeled for Llyn y Fan Fach. A dreamy lake that looks like a shard of glass plonked on top of a mountain.
Where you'll stay

Take in the lush countryside views over breakfast in the conservatory before a walk along the colourful canal to the nearby village of Llanfrynach for a pint at award-winning local pub Three Horseshoes Inn.
