King Kong's Gaff

Saxon Switzerland National Park, Germany

Is this… where King Kong lives?

Pretty much.

It’s The Saxon Switzerland National Park, which straddles the bottom of Germany and the top of Czech Republic. (But is nowhere near Switzerland 👀)

King Kong holidays here when he’s not repping it in Skull Island, or twirling around the Empire State building.
The canyonny looking rocks are called ‘Bastei’. They’re made of sandstone and were formed by the Elbe river, millions of years ago. This is the Bastei Bridge, the poster boy of the park.
The rocks are all over the National Park, along with 1200 km of trails for hiking and 15000m of climbing routes.

So if you’ve never been near any rock formations before, or if you’re the sort of white knuckled athlete who scales buildings for practise- there’s a hike in your size here.
The woods and river are a regular playpen for wild animals (alongside Kong himself). Salmon, otters and Kingfishers are living it up in the river, with eagles, black storks and even the odd Lynx prowl around the trees. See how many you can chirpse.
