LISBON'S JAZZ BARS
Lisbon, Portugal
"Never play anything the same way twice." - Louis Armstrong
Lisbon (Portugal’s party capital) has some of the best jazz bars in the world, full of dark corners and broken hearts.

Hot Clube de Portugal
“Come with me to the Hot Club, in a cellar in the Square of Joy…”Yep, the Hot Clube de Portugal sounds like a brothel. But the infamous HCP is actually the oldest jazz bar in Portugal, playing everything from bebop to dixieland since 1948.
It also runs a jazz school, and has seen the likes of Ronnie Scott, Sarah Vaughan and Maria João belt one out from its stage. Plus, it sells toast with its cocktails 🙌
It’s open with live music from Tuesdays-Saturdays.
Paginas Tantas
Paginas Tantas is one of the few classic bars left in lively Barrio Alto. It’s been going for 20 years, and hosts some of the best in new jazz talent.
The space is as intimate as an Etta James ballad, so get there early on a saturday to grab a cabaret table.
Fontoria
‘Put on your red shoes and dance the blues…’Just cos you ❤ jazz, doesn’t mean you have to sit in a dark corner appreciating in silence. Fontaria is all about getting loosey goosey and dancing to live jazz and blues bands.
Be warned/encouraged: on certain nights it turns into a burlesque-bondage-sexy raveathon. Check their FB to be sure (or not for a cheeky gamble).
Open every day except Monday.
