Puzzlewood Forest

PUZZLEWOOD FOREST

Gloucester , United Kingdom

Puzzlewood is a tangle of mossy branches and gnarled tree stumps in the Forest of Dean….

Would not be surprised to come across a herd of centaurs or find a pixie washing in a puddle.
It also has a better agent than Tom Cruise.

Because of it’s enchanted look it’s been used in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Doctor Who. Makes complete sense. There’s 14 acres of secret caves, ancient trees, maze-like paths, and rocks shaped like your nightmares.
The open sandal gladiator types weren’t the only ones digging for iron ore. Turns out people in the Iron Age (makes sense) were mad for the stuff too. What they found would’ve been used to make tools and weapons in the prehistoric period.

So these guys made a huge mess. Buttt the dips and troughs around Puzzlewood (called Scowles) were actually made by the erosion of cave systems.
Point is. Puzzlewood is like if Narnia and Lord of The Rings had an illegitimate love child. The trees look like they can talk and we’re pretty sure goblins hang out here after hours.

J.K. Rowling actually visited Puzzlewood and some peeps are convinced that it’s the inspo for The Forbidden Forest.
It takes an hour to drive here (3 hrs by public transport!) from Bath, but worth it to stroll round like a regular Bilbo Baggins. The guys here can organise woodland scavenger hunts, photography lessons and even bushcraft. Which is learning to make shelters and light fires. Handy.
This one’s a keeper - hit the Lucky button then save this trip for a happier time 💚
