SOUL AND JAZZ FESTIVALS

If you’re looking for ‘UNCE UNCE UNCE’ - go elsewhere…

Soul and jazz mash ups are few and far between in the techno dominated festival scene 💉

It’s up to Montenegro and Switzerland to bring the afros, smoke and skin-tingling vocals to the people.

Will it be the spiritual beachy vibes of Southern Soul Festival or the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival?

SOUTHERN SOUL FESTIVAL

Ulcinj, Montenegro

“Sun, sea and soul”

That’ll work. Soul, jazz and funk battle it out on Velika Plaza - the longest stretch of sandy beach in Europe. Hate to be listening to Ed Sheeran in a muddy Glasto field 💁

Expect massive sandcastle sculptures and spider crab effigies. Course.
This year Ayetoro, Abdul Forsyth and Yoruba Soul Orchestra take to the beach with real live instruments and meaty vocals - no autotune here (sorry Akon).
Leave your shoes at home and dance barefoot to a sax solo while your new mate Sven catches dinner off the shore.

(29th June - 2nd July)

MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL

Lake Geneva , Switzerland

The second biggest jazz festival in the world after Montreal’s Jazz Festival - Montreux isn’t pissing about.

Going since 1967, it's had the likes of Bowie, Patti Smith and Etta James performing by the banks of Lake Geneva.
This year’s line-up is just plain silly. Old school pop stars (Tom Jones you dog) mix with soul icons - like you Macy Gray.
Best bit? It’s 2 weeks long and there’s someone great on every night - hello Grace Jones on Saturday.

When you’re not at a show, snare a deckchair on the pier and sun up.

(30th June - 15th July)
