The Ghostly Congregation

The Ghostly Congregation

Brno, Czech Republic

Stumble across this decaying Czech church, and you’ll see rows of pale, hooded figures listening to a sermon that ended decades ago…

Clean yourself up, these ghosts are real (like, really real).
The people of Luková were convinced their small church was cursed and haunted, after loads of fires kept destroying it...

When the roof collapsed during a funeral in 1968, the congregation decided to sack the haunted church off and hold al fresco services only.
A couple of years ago, local artist Jakub Hadrava made it his mission to save the 16th century church, so filled it with spookily lifelike (deathlike??) statues to lure in visitors.

'The figures represent the ghosts of Sudeten Germans who lived in Lukova before World War Two and who came to pray at this church every Sunday’ says the artist.

Welll, that's comforting. Thanks Jakub.
People come from all over to shit their pants over these friendly ghosts, giving money to fund the church's repairs each time.

Get haunted while you can; once the target is reached the church will finally be repaired. And then the only ghosts will be the real undead...

Luková is an hour and a half from Brno.
