The Lemon Festival

The Lemon Festival

France

When life gives you lemons…

Make a 40ft citrus chateaux, complete with turrets.

Fête du Citron is in its 90th year. And unlike most 90 year olds, it’s bigger, stronger and lemonier than ever before.
Every year at the end of winter, the city of Menton (on the French Riviera) celebrates its 10/10 world class lemons by fashioning them into enormous sculptures.

Made by hand, in The Biovès gardens - giant lemon snails, killer whales, even Collosseums are created over thousands of hours.
By day, there’s exhibitions and zingy parades with towering citrus floats. It’s cheery as fook.
By night it’s all lit up, with projections, fireworks and cabaret shows. Like an outtake from The Mighty Boosh.
The town itself looks vaguely citrussey, good enough to eat, even without the lemons.
What better way to use fifteen tonnes of prime citrus fruit?

The Lemon Festival is on 17th February - 3rd March 2024. It's a 35-minute train from Nice.
