Christmas looks great on Prague.

It’s teeming with grand old squares (just crying out for Christmas markets) grand old churches (braying for nativity scenes) and grand old baroque buildings (whimpering for a dusting of snow).

But it’s the tasteful-three-wise-men-carol-singing kind of Christmas we’re on about. Not the big-fat-consumerist-coca-cola-flavoured one. It's the place to come for some classical Christmas cheer...

Go for the… Candlelit Churches

You don’t have to be best pals with the great guy in the sky to appreciate the Gothic mothership that is St Vitus Cathedral. Spot by the straw Nativity scene by the entrance.

Church of Our Lady Before Týn, in the middle of Old Square is just 1€ to visit. The altar is enough to make even a staunch atheist weep.

Head to St Salvator Church on Charles bridge (10/10 for the bridge alone) for advent concerts (think Vivaldi and Mozart) (€28) and midnight mass, complete with starry night (for those more into the Christian aspect).

Other good stuff

All three churches sit on old squares with booming Christmas markets. (There's more Christmas market squares in Prague than you'd get around in a year- even one called Wencelas - Christmassy AF). Stop for cinnamon rolls and mulled wine in the snow.
