Palermo’s Freaky Catacombs

PALERMO'S FREAKY CATACOMBS

Palermo, Italy

When you stand on a piece of lego…

The bodies in the Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo are so well preserved the skin’s still on the bone. Grim.
Something weird is going on with the air down here and 17th century bodies are still hanging around in their Sunday best.

Half-decayed bodies swing from the walls and peek out at you from open coffins…
In the olden days, priests used to pin the freshly dead bodies up and let them drip all their liquids out over the course of the year.

Yes, drip their bodily fluids out 😷
Then they were dressed up in their smartest clothes and left to chill.
These two are having a right laugh anyway.
There’s different rooms for clergy, children and even virgins… Don’t.
The creepiest corpse award goes to Rosalia or ‘Sleeping Beauty’. The 2 year old died of pneumonia 100 years ago and was one of the last to be admitted to the tombs.

People swear they’ve seen her open her perfectly preserved eyes. NOPE.
